Sophomore Buffaloes blast Sierra

It was all Buffaloes from the start and nothing changed during Manteca’s blowout victory over Sierra in sophomore girls basketball action Tuesday.

Manteca (5-1) poured it on and often, heading into the intermission with a 33-6 advantage. Jessica Reeder led the Buffaloes with 19 points, including three 3-ponters. Teammate Mia Ramirez added 17 points and dished out seven assists, while Myklyn Balmut added four points and eight boards.

Central Valley 56, East Union 51
The Hawks outscored the Lancers 18-10 in the fourth quarter, snatching a VOL win from East Union in the final eight minutes of action.
East Union (4-2, 9-7) held a 30-22 halftime lead, but got outscored by 13 points in the second half. Kristin Piasecki led all scorers with 24 points, while teammates Klacey Kachalkin and Allison Telles finished with 14 and six, respectively.

Frosh Girls
Sierra 30, Manteca 24
The Timberwolves (4-2) rode the dominant play of Valerie Nester to the win, as she erupted for 12 points and 24 rebounds for her fourth straight contest with at least 20 boards.
Asia Cortez also had solid play, scoring 11 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Brenda Padilla also landed in double-digits in rebounds, pulling in 10.

Manteca was led by Elani Freeman’s eight points and teammate Adaeze Nkwocha chipped in five.

East Union 50, Central Valley 31
The Lancers had little difficulty with the Hawks as Alyssa Gonigan led the squad with 13 and teammate Alex Scopas finished with 12.
