Spartans stave off St. Marys

LATHROP — A defensive standout for Lathrop last season, Ronaldo Macias boosted the attack in the battle-tested Spartans’ 4-3 win over visiting St. Mary’s on Tuesday.
Macias, a 2015 All-Valley Oak League first-team defender, scored two goals and assisted another. Christian Cardenas added a goal and two assists. Luis Angel Vargas scored off a feed from Miguel Chavez.
Lathrop (3-3-1) had a commanding 4-1 lead at one point in the second half before the Rams (1-2) came charging back. Dominik Soos scored twice for St.  Mary’s and Michael Absher had a goal.
Lathrop goalie Jefry Raduales fended off St. Mary’s with seven saves.

Mountain House 2, Ripon Christian 1
MOUNTAIN HOUSE — The Knights (0-2) scored their first goal of the season when Nick Van Vliet struck with 15 minutes remaining.
Mountain House (1-2) landed the first blow in the second minute of the match and took a one-goal lead into halftime.
