Squires roll in win over Bulldogs

CERES – The East Union boys sophomore basketball team found little resistance in its 51-38 Valley Oak League victory over Ceres Wednesday.
Brandon Kline led the Lancer charge with 19 points, including 15 first half points to help provide the cushion. Alex Del Real added 15, while Wayne Cheung finished with a dozen. Kline connected for a pair of 3-pointers in his first half barrage.

Lathrop 62, Central Valley 31

LATHROP – Ricky Chaves continued to shine brightly for the Spartans, leading all scorers with 22 points in Lathrop’s win over Central Valley Wednesday.
Teammate Darius Miller added 10 for the Spartans.

Sonora 47, Sierra 44

SONORA – Turnovers proved to be the poison for the Sierra Timberwolves Wednesday night as they dropped a heartbreaker on the road at Sonora.
“We didn’t shoot the ball well tonight and had too many turnovers and missed opportunities,” Sierra head coach Justin Muschott said. “Sonora played well and took advantage of our mistakes.”

Joseph Berry led Sierra in scoring with 13 points while Tim Thornton finished with 10 points. Kayson Matela rounded out the leaders with eight points.

Sierra 62, Sonora 52

SONORA – The Timberwolves (9-0, 16-0) continued to cruise in their double-digit win over Sonora. Emmanuel Elijah led all scorers with 21 points, while Guillermo Nunez finished with 16.

Oakdale 44, Manteca 26

An eight point performance by Nick Garcia wasn’t enough to lift Manteca (4-5, 7-9) past the Oakdale Mustangs. Both Rodney Fryer and Ryan Fox had four points apiece for the Buffaloes.

The Oakdale Mustangs got the better of the Manteca girls freshman basketball team Wednesday night 42-29. Hailee Teixeira finished the game for Sierra with seven points, while Manveer Hunda added six points.
