WESTON RANCH — Lathrop High’s sophomore team needed just the 11 runs it racked up in the first inning, but the hits kept on coming in the Spartans’ 30-0 shellacking of Weston Ranch in Monday’s Valley Oak League opener.
Play ended after just three innings of play.

Briana Lopez led Lathrop (1-0, 1-3 overall) from the pitcher’s circle and the batter’s box. Her no-hit shutout featured six strikeouts, and she walked two batters.
She aided her cause with two doubles, a single, two steals and five runs scored. Jocelyn Terra added a grand slam.

“Overall it was a good effort by the girls,” Lathrop coach Ed Fang said. “The girls kept their discipline at the plate and didn’t swing at bad pitches.”
