VOLLEYBALL: Lathrop dominates after slow start against Mountain House

Lathrop shook off a slow start Monday, ending its first half of the Western Athletic Conference schedule with a 16-25, 25-21, 25-9, 25-12 victory over Mountain House.

The Spartans (6-1 WAC, 10-4 overall) did it with a balanced attack, as middle Sydney Hanks led the charge with nine kills and six blocks.

Krystle Sakay contributed eight kills, four aces and nine digs. Alaba Olaleye also had eight kills, while LaNicia Ellis scored seven kills and five blocks.

Camila De La Garza tallied 28 assists to go with seven digs. Thracylie Acoba had nine digs and four aces.

 

Junior varsity

Manteca 2, Oakdale 0

The host Buffaloes staved off a late charge to clinch a 25-13, 25-22 sweep.

Sophia Nussbaumer led the front line with five kills and two blocks. Danielle Grabowski fired four kills and four aces. Catie Beattie led the team from the back row, while Rayana Ladd and Aracelli Rubio contributed with solid serving.

 

Lathrop 2, Mountain House 0

Janessa Ward registered 10 kills and forces to help Lathrop cruise to a 25-13, 25-17 sweep.

Liliana Navarro served five aces. ZaRyah Mageo added three kills to the attack, Celeste Narvarez had eight digs and Julia Roaquin dished out 13 assists.

 

East Union 2, Kimball 0

East Union came away with a 25-19, 25-18 victory.

Jatziry Garcia finished with two kills and two aces, Giselle Velazquez served four aces, while Marcella Carranza had five assists and two aces.

 

Freshman

East Union 2, Kimball 1

The Lancers escaped Tracy with a hard-earned 25-22, 13-25, 16-14 win.

Katelynn Trevino hammered six kills. Jaelynn Ballou added four kills and two aces. Carolyn Johnson had three assists and two aces. Isabella Rodriguez paced the back row with four digs.

 

Manteca 2, Oakdale 0

Jayana Dias torched Oakdale from the service line where she racked up eight aces in a 25-8, 25-19 win for the Buffaloes.

Amil Gaskin added five kills to the attack, while Ariel De La O had three to go with a block. Nicole Ayala anchored the defense with 18 digs.  

 

Lathrop 2, Mountain House 0

The Spartans swept 25-16, 25-18 behind Zoe Cejas’ four aces and three digs.

Alyssa Roller helped lead the attack with four assists. Jada Oliver chipped in two kills and two aces.
