The Weston Ranch tennis team has had its fair share of tough luck on the season, but everything came together for the squad Thursday in its Valley Oak League victory over the Sonora Wildcats 8-1.

The Cougars relished behind dominant play from their senior leaders. Weston Ranch got victories from each of those seniors, including a victory by forfeit from senior Parmeen Kaur.

“I’m so proud of how the girls have continued to improve throughout the entire season,” Cougars head coach Julia Bylow said. “It was nice to see them encourage one another and be happy for one another’s success.”

Chelsea Olitan (6-1, 6-1), Abigail Balingit (6-1, 6-1) and Najot Nahil (6-4, 7-5) all recorded victories, with Nahil responding from a 4-0 second set deficit to pull out the victory.

Stephanie Millen and Renae Royster-West teamed up for a Cougars doubles win, outlasting their opponent 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Sonora was troubled by homecoming commitments, forcing the Wildcats into two forfeits in doubles play.

“Finishing out the season with a win and seeing the seniors winning in their final home match was a nice feeling,” Bylow said. “We were so happy that all of our seniors got wins.”

Oakdale 6, Sierra 3

The Mustangs were able to even their season series with Sierra but came up short on a second-place finish in the VOL. Sierra, which ends the regular season with a 9-3 record (13-4 overall), won the overall tiebreaker by winning 22 of 40 total sets played between the two teams.
