Weston Ranch’s sophomore football team came through for their biggest victory under first-year head coach Norberto Ferdine last Friday at The Corral.
The visiting Cougars made pivotal defensive stops in the second half to stave off Valley Oak League powerhouse Oakdale, 21-7.
Quarterback Marcus Moore completed a pair of touchdown passes to Chris Cannedy in the second half. Erron Duncan rushed in the first points for Weston Ranch (3-2, 5-3 overall) from 3 yards out in the opening half.
Ranelle Howard turned the tide for good in Weston Ranch’s favor with a third-quarter sack, which resulted in a fumble recovered by Mark Cardanilla deep in Cougar territory. Cardanilla ran it back 20 yards the other way, setting up Moore’s second TD toss.
Cal-Shawn Williams’ fourth-quarter interception sealed the win for Weston Ranch.
