LODI — After a sluggish performance against Turlock Christian Thursday night, Ripon Christian was able to pick up the pace against Tokay Friday, but it wouldn’t be enough in a 20-25, 17-25, 26-24, 22-25 loss.

Kelsey Tillema led the way at net, turning in five blocks and six kills, while Michelle Terpstra handled the passing duties for 16 assists.

Michael Alger scooped 13 digs.

“We’re young,” RC head coach Tiger Shelton said. “We have three sophomores and a freshman. But we’re making progress, and there are signs of brilliance.”

Shelton said after the TC loss, Ripon Christian was a bit sluggish to start Friday, but the possibility of practice on Labor Day helped to light a fire under the Lady Knights.

“That was all the motivation they needed,” Shelton said with a chuckle.

RC heads to Linden Thursday, before kicking off the Golden Valley Tournament at Chavez in Stockton the following week.

DeArbia Gardner had six kills, but it wouldn’t be enough for the Cougars in a 21-25, 17-25, 14-25 loss.

Gretchen Moneres turned in six aces, and Sydney Carter had five kills.

Weston Ranch’s sophomores won in two, 25-20, 27-25, as did the freshmen, 25-12, 25-18.
