Akindele, San Joses own goal help FC Dallas to draw

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — San Jose’s Victor Bernardez headed in an own goal and Tesho Akindele scored on a penalty kick to help FC Dallas escape with a 2-2 draw against the Earthquakes on Saturday night.

FC Dallas’ Fabian Castillo fired a goal-line cross from just outside the 6-yard box and Bernardez, trying to send the ball wide, headed in the equalizing own goal in the 62nd minute.

Alberto Quintero hammered a cross from Quincy Amarikwa into the net to give the Earthquakes (2-1-2) up 1-0 in the opening minutes.

Ryan Hollingshead drew a foul on Shaun Francis in the box and Akindele’s ensuing penalty kick tied it in the 36th.

Chris Wondolowski slipped behind the FC Dallas (3-2-1) and put away a well-played ball from Amarikwa to from just inside the top of the box and gave San Jose a 2-1 advantage nearly 20 minutes later.

After opening the season with back-to-back wins, San Jose in winless in its last three games.
