Trejo leads Lancaster win over Modesto Nuts

LANCASTER  (AP) —  Alan Trejo had four hits and scored two runs as the Lancaster JetHawks beat the Modesto Nuts 9-3 on Wednesday.

Up 1-0, Lancaster batted around in the second inning, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring six runs, including a single by Carlos Herrera that scored Max George.

The JetHawks later tacked on a run in both the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth, Joel Diaz hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Colton Welker before he doubled to score Trejo in the sixth.

Lancaster right-hander Matt Dennis (6-8) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing three runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings. Opposing starter Nick Wells (1-2) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed eight runs and 11 hits over 3 1/3 innings.

For the Nuts, Joe Rizzo homered and doubled, driving in two runs.

With the win, Lancaster improved to 7-2 against Modesto this season.
