Mason Merilles added more awards and records to his growing collection this past Saturday.

The 2013 Sierra High graduated competed in the No Limit Best of the West Classic Powerlifting Championships hosted at Golden Valley High of Merced. There, he placed first in the 242-pound junior and open divisions and was named Best Lifter.

His deadlift of 661 pounds are new state and national records in his division. He also benched 369 pounds and squatted 573 for a state and national record total of 1,603.

Still new to the sport, Merilles has already achieved much in six months. Last November he shattered three world records in taking first in the International Powerlifting League World Championships in Las Vegas. He is sponsored by Meredith Farms and CalFit Manteca.
