Mother Nature is turning on the furnace full blast just in time for Memorial Day.
The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures will spike 20 degrees over Thursday’s high of 84 to peak at 104 degrees on Monday.
Today’s high is expected to reach 86 followed by 89 on Saturday and 97 on Sunday.
Tuesday’s high is forecast for 100 degrees before Wednesday drops off to 96.
Cooling nighttime Delta breezes will be almost non-existent when the wee hours of Sunday morning arrive. That means overnight lows that have been in the low-50s for the past week will reach 60 Sunday and 62 degrees on Monday.
The National Weather Service is warning much of the population could be impacted by the early-season heat event. Heat-related illness to humans, pets, and livestock are possible with extended outdoor exposure. Any travelers, hikers, campers, or outdoor enthusiasts with plans to spend time outdoors over the holiday weekend should prepare for excessive heat.
At the same time with the first wave of summer crowds hitting waterways and lakes this three-day weekend, there is an advisory out regarding cold and fast moving water due to the Sierra snowmelt. The weather service notes “the air may be hot but the water is cold” meaning even experience swimmers can lose muscle control very quickly.
The high in parts of the Central Valley could reach 108 degrees on Monday.
