With this area of the state experiencing severe drought conditions, the City of Ripon continued its efforts to conserve water.

Residents have been following year-round conservation efforts for several years 

In 2014, the Ripon City Council passed an ordinance, consisting of “Wasting Water Prohibited.”

Monthly updates on water usage are often made available to elected leaders, with staff providing water levels from pre-drought 2013 as a baseline comparison.

On Tuesday, Director of Public Works James Pease announced the water reduction figures from residents for the summer months.

Water usage for Ripon was at 16 percent reduction for June, and was further reduced to 19 percent in July.

In addition, Pease noted that the Water Conservation Coordinator is monitoring the situation on a daily basis – written-notice warnings are initially to those in violation followed by fines to repeat offenders to the water conservation measures.

No watering in Ripon is allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Those living on properties within city limits with even addresses are allowed water landscaping on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from now to the end of November.

Residents with odd numbered addresses can do likewise on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
