A family disagreement turned deadly Sunday.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. received a call reporting a family member had been shot in the 28000 block of South Airport Way in rural Manteca.
After arguing for days with his wife, Daniel Escobar, 49, left their house on Saturday night. He returned on Sunday to pick up his belongings.
While his wife was inside the house, Escobar walked towards the back of the house, and seconds later a gunshot was heard. Escobar walked back inside the house and rushed out of the front door and left.
Worried about the sound, the wife walked towards the back of the house and found her mother bleeding from a gunshot wound. She immediately called 9-1-1 and started CPR.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where she passed away despite medical intervention.
A few minutes later and while deputies were on scene, Escobar returned to the house and was arrested without incident. He was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on murder charges.
