Thomas Toy Community Center boosters want teens — and the community as a whole — to become better acquainted with the Thomas Toy Community Center.
And what better way than having an all comers cornhole tournament with free entry with the top team member each receiving $200 Visa gift cards, the second place team each receiving $100 Visa gift cards, and the third place team each receiving $50 Visa gift cards.
The first 96 players, regardless of age, will be accepted. The free signup for the Saturday, July 11, event is available by going to the thomastoycc.org website, going to events on the top bar, and then follow the prompts next to the cornhole tournament flyer.
The cutoff date for entering is July 8.
Forty-eight teams will be formed at random for those that sign up for the competition.
The day starts at 8 a.m. on July 11 with tossing getting underway at 9 a.m.
There will be items for sale such as popcorn, snow cones, and such.
Thomas Toy Center’s summer hours are Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m.
Membership to the center at 602 East Yosemite Ave. is free to seventh through 12th graders.
It is open during the school year as well after the school day ends.
Upcoming special activities include Jacob Naven — the Sierra High tennis coach — providing tennis and pickleball lessons this Wednesday as well as a field trip on June 25 to a San Francisco Giants game.
The 8,000-square-foot facility is designed to empower teens by giving them ownership over
their space and programs. Key features and activities include:
*The Café: A modern "Starbucks-vibe" space for gathering with friends, enjoying food, or meeting with mentors.
*Academic Support: On-site tutoring and homework assistance provided through a partnership with Give Every Child a Chance.
*Recreation & Clubs: A variety of engaging options such as a Garden Club, Art Club, gaming, air hockey, pool tables, music performances and much more.
*Life Skills: Programs focused on character building, leadership, and practical skills like financial literacy or bicycle repair.
