School breaks allows RUSD to tackle maintenance work

The Ripon Unified District Office

The school breaks can be busy times for Andy Strickland and his staff.

As the Director of Facilities, Operations & Safety Services for the Ripon Unified School District, he mentioned the summer months as usually the busiest.

During the Thanksgiving break, however, Strickland said at the Dec. 13 school board meeting that he and his staff got a lot done during that time.

For starters, they deep-cleaned bathrooms and changed out three classrooms from desks to tables at Colony Oak Elementary School.

Other completed projects during that span included:

  • Cleaned nine classroom carpets at Ripona Elementary School.
  • Removed paint from bathroom walls in preparation for painting at Park View Elementary School.
  • Did leaf removal at all of the RUSD sites.
  • Painted the newly installed door at Weston Elementary School.
  • Cleaned the carpet in the teachers’ lounge at Weston.
  • Depp cleaned classrooms at Ripon Elementary School.
  • Replaced several lights in classrooms at Ripon High.
  • Did outdoor cleaning throughout RHS.

Strickland also recognized the work his staff did at Park View. This was the project calling for the installation of doors between the kindergarten rooms.

In addition, workers took on the long-awaited work of finally removing an boiler at Ripon Elementary School.

“That was a pet project of (former school board member) Ernie Tyhurst,” said Strickland, who added that this area will soon be converted to office space.
