THEY’LL BE READY FOR START OF SCHOOL
2-story classroom work in final stretch at EU &, Manteca
EU high
The 2-story building housing 26 classrooms and a media center going up along Union Road at East Union High will be ready for the start of the next school year in August.

Things are looking up at Manteca High and East Union High when the next school year starts on Aug. 4.

That’s because a pair of two-story buildings made possible by the $260 million Measure A school bond — 26 classrooms and a media center along Union Road at East Union and 20 classrooms along Mikesell Street at Manteca High — will be ready for students.

So will a new career technical education building at Manteca High and new classrooms at New Haven School.

The bond measure is replacing aging classrooms — some that were approaching 60 years of age as well as portables in use for more than 40 years — that had issues that were more costly to renovate to make sure they could meet the educational needs and safety of the 21st century.

A number of older classrooms will be razed in the coming months at Manteca High.

Ten older portables currently in place at East Union High will be relocated to Manteca High for two years to temporarily replace the classrooms being torn down.

In their place, a second two-story building with 32 classrooms and a media center will be built along Sherman Avenue at the Manteca High campus.

It will be essentially a mirror of the two-story classroom being built at East Union High.

Other significant work taking place this summer are relocating portables from August Knodt School and East Union to three Manteca elementary schools.

Two portable classrooms will add 54 seats at Woodward, five portables will add 135 seats at Veritas, and eight portables will add 218 seats at Sequoia School.
