Catfish derby set for Saturday

STOCKTON - San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation and the Delta Fly Fishers will host the 29th annual Catfish  Derby on Saturday, June 1, at Oak Grove Regional Park. Gates open at 6:15 a.m.

Event competition is open to everyone. Kids age 15 years and younger fish free at Oak Grove’s

10-acre lake during the event. Over 2,300 pounds of catfish will be planted prior to the derby, with Oak

Grove Lake closed to fishing on Friday, May 31. Anglers will compete for prizes in similar age groups

(i.e.: 8 and under, 9 to 12, 13 to 15 and adult competition) and food will be available for purchase.

There is no registration fee for the event, however, a $5 fishing permit fee and valid CA. fishing license

are required for those sixteen (16) years of age or over. A $6 vehicle-parking fee will also apply, as will

all State Fish and Game laws. Participants must provide their own fishing equipment.

Oak Grove Regional Park is located on Eight Mile Road and Interstate 5 in Stockton. Derby registration

closes at 10 a.m. and the last weigh-in is at 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded shortly thereafter. For
