Manteca Police Street Crimes Unit detectives started a pursuit at about 4 p.m. Wednesday  after they observed a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck near the intersection of Marty and Crestwood they believed to be stolen.
The driver refused to stop for them and left the area at high speed going southbound on Crestwood Avenue. He then headed eastbound on Louise Avenue over the Highway 99 freeway to Austin Road where he turned in a southbound direction heading toward Yosemite Avenue.
Sgt. Rob Armosino said that due to heavy traffic conditions and the suspect’s erratic driving, officers terminated the pursuit only to hear minutes later from their dispatch center that there was a collision reported at Yosemite Avenue at Highway 99. The suspect had collided with a semi-truck and fled the disabled vehicle on foot.
Armosino said the suspect probably sustained some injury in the crash since the airbags deployed on impact. There was moderate damage to the vehicle.
