I would like to bring your attention to the appalling picture published in the July 20 edition of the Manteca Bulletin. On page A-2 under the heading of “Helping Dad on the Farm” is a picture of the most disgusting scene I have seen since some World War II pictures of concentration camps.

On one side is a rundown dairy and on the left side of the picture are baby calves trapped in pins, that prevent movement, with liquid feed bowls in front of each pin.  This is the process of raising “veal” for consumption.

 It is the most barbaric, torturous, and one of the cruelest techniques used to raise food.  These poor creatures are feed a liquid diet instead of grass in order to keep the flesh lean.  They cannot move, sit, or move in any direction for their entire life time.  When the time is right, or wrong for them, they are butchered without ever having been able to move about the fields or eaten natural grass.

You think this is a cute picture of a bucolic farm?  You need to think about your definition of a cute farm.

Then go out to this farm, which I did, and find out if you don’t get sick in your stomach at the treatment of these innocent animals.
