The Spreckels Park Little League Dodgers rallied for five runs in the first inning and it almost wasn’t enough.
The Dodgers were able to stave off the Phillies’ late-inning comeback, and reliever Mark Vicente struck out the final batter to clinch their minor division victory 6-5 at Brock Elliot School Sunday.
Danny Aguilar’s single to bring home Michael Esparza in the fourth proved to be the winning run, as the Dodgers avoided the “if necessary” championship game and instead played their way into the District 67 Tournament of Champions.
Steven Rios anchored the Dodgers (17-1) from the mound with a dominant performance, as she recorded all nine of his outs via strikes in his three innings of work.
Darrion Kitson highlighted their first-inning onslaught with a two-run double that drove in Jonathon Shaefer and Rios. Chase Costa capped the rally with a run off of Esparza’s sacrifice bunt to first base.
Spreckels Park opens the district tournament in Tracy June 18 at Jefferson School.
Juniors
Titans 11, Bulldogs 1
The Titans ended the regular season with an emphatic victory over their Spreckels Park rivals. Gerald Parente led the way with four stellar innings of one-hit ball from the bump, and the offense helped him out by belting 15 hits.
Marc Wilson was 3 for 3 and highlighted a fourth-inning rally with a bases-clearing triple. Bryson Sanders (3 for 3, two RBIs), Buddy Reeder (2 for 5, 2B, four RBIs), Alex Jorgensen (2 for 3, two RBIs, three runs, A.J. Shiffler (two-run 2B) and Parente (2 for 4, four runs) were also in on the hit parade.
Nolan Kelley’s drive to right field represented the Bulldogs’ only hit.
The Titans begin the TOC Saturday, 9 a.m. against the Northgate Pirates in Weston Ranch, while the Bulldogs take on Mountain House at 3 p.m.

The Athletics blasted their way into the District 67 TOC behind Ryan Vasquez’s three-run homer and Matt Eavenson’s two-run single.
