It was another tough outing Friday for Sierra High.

In the 54-9 Valley Oak League loss to visiting Kimball, the Timberwolves managed to close out on a positive note.

Late in the game, Sierra (0-3 VOL, 1-7 overall), behind quarterback Tim Sarginson, marched the length of the field while trying to beat the running clock.

With less than 20 seconds left, he found Paul Barrios racing to the 29-yard touchdown.

"It was a good way to end the game," said Timberwolves coach Jeff Harbison.

He's hoping that his team can continue to build on this momentum next week against East Union.

The evening belonged to the Jaguars (1-2, 4-4).

Kimball wasted little time in building up an early 16-0 lead. On the second play of the game, quarterback Jayden McKey, operating out of the pistol, hit Travis Marieiro, who converted a short pass to a 45-yard score.

About four minutes later, McKey hit Sebastian Tate on a short pass from the other side. He, too, raced past the defenders on his 65-yard TD.

The Jaguars continued their first-quarter roll as Darius Doyle nearly broke free on his 60-yard punt return only to be stopped by Barrios.

McKey, who also converted the two-point conversions on the first two scores, later hit Doyle on 20-yard pass play for a score, upping Kimball's lead, 22-0.

Sierra found some traction offensively early in the second quarter.

Sarginson hooked up Andreyas Gutierrez on a 36-yard play, setting up Alan Gonzalez's 37-yard field goal.

On the ensuing kickoff, Izayah Houston recovered the onside kick. Unfortunately, the Timberwolves were unable to capitalize on the break.

The Jaguars scored two more times before the half. Tate scored on a 1-yard TD and McKey scrambled and broke loose on a 31-yard score.

Kimball led at the half, 38-3.

McKey completed 12 of his 17 passes for 275 yards and three TDs. Tate had a total of 164 yards from scrimmage, gaining 95 yards on nine carries on the ground and catching a pair of passes for 69 yards.

Sarginson was 22 of 28 in passing for 202 yards and an interception. Aydan Harris hauled seven passes for 40 yards while Joey Mendez caught four passes for 38 yards.
