Weston Ranch was able to put forth a fight in the first game, but that would be all the Cougars could muster up in a 28-26, 25-17, 25-8 loss to the Buffaloes Wednesday in Valley Oak League play.
The Buffaloes (4-6 VOL, 15-18 overall) cruised to an easy win after battling Weston Ranch in a two-point win to start the series.
Dallas Mould made a solid impact for Manteca, smashing home seven kills and turning away one block at the net to pace the Buffaloes. Tara Dadasovich dished out 25 assists in the win and also posted a game-high four aces for Manteca. Abigail Rosas led the team with eight digs.
Anais Castillo turned in 14 assists for the Cougars, while teammate DeArbia Gardner (five kills) and Andrea Vega (six digs) both made solid contributions.
Sidney Carter had a team-high two aces and Laura Ramos led Weston Ranch with a pair of blocks.
The Cougars (1-10 VOL, 1-15 overall) will have their hands full in the next VOL challenge as they play host to defending league champion Oakdale, while Manteca will pay a visit to the Dalben Center in a Monday match with East Union.
Sierra was unable to keep pace with the Wildcats, dropping three games 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 in the road loss. Modesty Rodriguez had a solid effort, recording 10 assists and four digs, while Jaslynn Liotard bashed home six kills and had four blocks and three digs.
Chelsea Bereta pulled out eight digs, while Alysia Atkins contributed six kills, four blocks and three digs. Nicole Sylvester was good for nine service points, including two aces.
Sierra (6-4 VOL, 11-5 overall) will try and get back on the right track with they travel to Ceres to take on the Bulldogs Monday.
The Lancers were unable to get anything going against the Mustangs, dropping all three games by double-digit point margins.
“The girls had some good passes, sets and kills,” East Union head coach Eryn Bowers said. “But Oakdale just has some solid players who really know how to place the volleyball.”
Amber Abidi had two kills for the Lancers, while Taylor Maruca had four assists and Brittany Anet LaMar chipped in two blocks and two digs.
East Union (5-6 VOL) will continue league action Monday when they play host to the Manteca Buffaloes.
“We had some players out due to illness,” Lathrop head coach Angela Cuellar said. “But we still need to play hard and get the job done.
“We will continue to do what we have to do.”

The Hawks took down the Spartans in three, winning 25-17, 25-12, 25-15 in Wednesday’s Valley Oak League matchup.
