Led by multi-event winners Liam Wohle and Jude Viss, the Ripon boys track and field team captured a share of the Trans Valley League title Thursday at Wes Stouffer Field.
Hughson was alone in first place, defeating the Indians head-to-head in a dual meet. Ripon was able to earn a piece of the championship by outpointing the Huskies in the final, 151.5-140. Sonora finished third with 107 points and was followed by Escalon (73), Orestimba (28), Hilmar (16.5) and Ripon Christian (8).
Ripon’s girls came up short of a title share, with Hughson (147.5) running away with sole possession. The Indians (95) were the runners-up but enjoyed several individual achievements, including Clara Schoolland’s record-setting effort in the high jump. The senior tied her all-time best mark of 5 feet, 5 inches but shattered Hughson alumnae Alex Almy’s 29-year-old meet record of 5-03.
Orestimba (77) took third in the meet standings, holding off Escalon (76.5), Hilmar (74), Sonora (50) and Ripon Christian (3).
