Lathrop’s girls tennis team was dealt an 8-1 defeat Thursday against visiting Johansen at Manteca Regional Tennis Center.

Madilynn Romero accounted for the Spartans’ only win, as she held off Gayle Cabral in the No. 2 singles match, 7-6 (2), 6-2.

Johansen was able to string together some hard-earned wins to turn this Western Athletic Conference dual match into a blowout.

In the No. 1 singles match, Johansen’s McKenna Taylor won 6-2, 7-6 (1) against Godwina Ogbeide, a senior who was honored before the match. Lathrop No. 5 Suhani Banwait fell short 0-6, 6-4, 4-10 against Sithli Pencho. Ruby Chavez (5-7, 2-6), Justice Pacheco Seward (4-6, 1-6) and Janelle Lat (3-6, 1-6) rounded out the Spartans’ singles ladder.

Lathrop No. 1 doubles tandems Keziah Boateng/Marintza Mejia and No. 2 Rachel Noateng and Kiele Matus were both defeated 8-6 in super sets. Brianna Felisco and Evalym Vasquez.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Ripon 157, Sonora 214

The Indians dominated the Valley Foothill League North Division match at Jack Tone Golf, as their four scorers shot better than host Sonora’s No. 1.

Gabbi Ilardi led the charge with a 4-over 35. Zoe Bremer (38), Katie Martin (39) also factored into the scoring. Ana DiGiulio chipped in a 45.
