RANCHO MIRAGE (AP) — Shanshan Feng shot a 6-under 66 on Thursday to take the early lead in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the first major tournament of the year.
The 24-year-old Chinese player had seven birdies and a bogey in her morning round in perfect conditions at Mission Hills.
Feng won the 2012 LPGA Championship to become the tour’s first Chinese winner. Last year, she won the Reignwood LPGA in China and the season-ending CME Group Titleholders.
Mickelson among leaders at Houston Open
HUMBLE, Texas (AP) — Phil Mickelson did more than prove to just himself that he’s ready for next week’s Masters on Thursday.
The five-time major winner showed to everyone that he’s fully recovered from last week’s muscle pull and likely to be a factor in this week’s Houston Open as well.
Without so much as a practice round this week at the 7,441-yard Golf Club of Houston, Mickelson opened with a 4-under par 68 and was among the leaders following Thursday’s opening round.
Sanderson Farms Classic plans to move
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi’s only PGA Tour event plans to move to Country Club of Jackson, ending a 20-year relationship with Annandale Golf Club.
The Sanderson Farms Championship has been played at Annandale in Madison, Miss., which is a suburb of Jackson, since 1994. This year’s tournament is scheduled for Nov. 6-9.
