The under-9 Benfica Red girls of the Manteca Futbol Club captured their age division at the Riley Simmons 6v6 Shootout on Saturday.

Benfica won two of its three games, allowing just one goal in dominating performance at Woodward Park.

The red squad defeated Benfica White in the morning game, 2-0, and then put themselves in the driver’s seat for the championship with a 2-0 win over Elite Storm on short rest.

Needing only a draw in their final match, Benfica Red accomplished just that with a 1-1 split with Rage Orange.

Members of the team are: Payton Abrew, Kaitlyn Espinola, Chloe Silva, Kaya Whittaker, Chloe Thomas, Tallon Cervantez, Danielle Grabowski, Presley Perez, and Zoe Sandoval.

The team was coached by Manuel Pires and Jason Silva. 

Each year since its inception, the Riley Simmons 6v6 Shootout has helped raise money to support a local family in need, beginning with the Simmons family in 2013. Riley Simmons was a member of MFC’s Benfica program when she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Last year, MFC helped two families with a child battling cancer. 

A benefactor for Saturday’s Shootout hasn’t been announced.
