Filing opens for Ripon City Council, school board seats
election

The City of Ripon posted a notice of election this week.

The filing period for those seeking a seat on the Ripon City Council is now through Aug. 11.

This for the Nov. 8 general elections.

Up for grabs are a pair of full four-year terms and one partial unexpired term of two years.

The two full terms are occupied by Mayor Dean Uecker and Vice Mayor Michael Restuccia.

Gary Barton, who is a provisional appointment – he was selected last December by elected leaders amid a strong pool of eight candidates to fill the vacancy by Tim Wheeler, who stepped down after moving his family out of state – can opt for the short term, expiring in 2024.

“If an incumbent fails to file by the (Aug. 11) deadline, said filing will be extended to Aug. 17, except for the incumbent,” according to the City’s notice of election post.

City Clerk Lisa Roos on Thursday reported no filings of any candidate during this first week.

Filing papers may be obtained from Ripon City Hall, 259 N. Wilma Ave., from Monday through Thursday during business hours, 7:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m.

Candidates must be registered voters and reside within the Ripon city limits.

RUSD school board

The filing period for a seat on the Ripon Unified school board is also underway.

Filing papers are available at the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters office, 44 N. San Joaquin St., Third Floor (Suite 350), Stockton.

The school board election is conducted via Trustee Area.

This is an election year for board President Christopher ‘Kit’ Oase (Trustee Area 3), Vice President Chad Huskey (Trustee Area 1) and Trustee Vince Hobbs (Trustee Area 3).

All three are four-year terms.

Challengers must reside in Trustee Areas 1-3 – only residents of those areas are eligible to vote if the race goes on the November ballot.
