Grab the sun tan lotion, put on the shades, and browse grandpa’s 45 collection from the 1960s for the Drifters hit single “Up on the Roof.”

That way you will be ready when you get an invite for Manteca’s next big thing.

You could say it is taking “open space” and “lounging areas” to new heights.

Two apartment projects now making their way through the approval process include rooftop access for tenants.

It’s called “open space” on the roof of a four-story, 44-unit complex reaching up 59 feet on the northside of Wawona Street between Airport Way and Fishback Road.

It includes 6-foot opaque glass panels on the south side to boost privacy of adjoining homes and more traditional railing on the other three sides.

About a quarter of a mile as the drone flies to the northwest will be another apartment complex utilizing its roof as a gathering place for tenants.

It’s part of a five-story, 164-unit complex that will top out at 75 feet proposed behind a two-story retail and office building on the south side of Airport Way just west of Yosemite Avenue.

It is described as a rooftop deck being designed for entertainment and small gatherings.

Both are in addition to other amenities.

There was a third complex that was proposed near where the new fire station is proposed in southwest Manteca that wanted to have roof access as well.

The rooftop, though, was atop a one-story clubhouse/fitness center that was separate from a proposed four-story apartment building.

That apartment proposal — that has been withdrawn — included a swimming pool as does the one on Airport Way. Both, however, were envisioned to be on the ground.

Maybe apartments with a rooftop swimming pool are next.

That said, dog parks as well as dog baths and even bicycle repair rooms are becoming the norm in new apartment complexes being proposed in Manteca.
