Dutch Bros (the site is in the red box) plans to build along Colony Road in the SaveMart shopping center in Ripon.

Dutch Bros Coffee is looking to move into Ripon.

And given the founders of the nation’s largest privately owned coffee store chain with 380 plus locations are brothers with Dutch ancestry — Dave and Travis Boersma — and are third generation dairy farmers from Ashland, Ore., the business will fit right in.

A major site review for Dutch Bros is on the agenda for Monday’s 6 p.m. Planning Commission in the Council Chambers.

Due to the recent COVID-19 restrictions, the monthly session will not be open to the public. Those looking to view or take part – comments can be forwarded to City Clerk Lissa Roos (cityclerk@cityofripon.org) by 4 p.m. on the day of the meeting – can log on to the YouTube link at www.cityofripon.org.

The request calls for construction of a new 862-square-foot Dutch Bros Coffee with a separate covered window for walk-up customers on the opposite side of the drive-thru service.

The proposed project at 1220 West Colony Road. in the Save Mart Shopping Center, with the main access point most likely on the driveway approach near Colony Road, according to the report by Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart.

He added that about 370 feet of stacking space will be available behind the drive-thru window, accommodating up to 17 vehicles in the dedicated queuing lane.

There is also space for another six vehicles in an overflow queue as well as the ability to stack up another eight vehicles without impacting movements in the shopping center parking lot.

“Dutch Bros. will also implement a runner system at the proposed facility that is designed to increase speed and efficiency in serving the drive-thru customers,” Zuidervaart said.

The runners use handled devoices to fill orders from drivers in line. They also deliver the orders when they are ready.

Should Commissioners agree with the staff recommendation, the following motion would be appropriate: “The Planning Commission approves the Dutch Bros major site review based on the findings and subject to the conditions of the staff report.”

Dutch Bros. is nearing completion of the Manteca location can also be found in Stockton, Modesto, Oakdale, and Lodi.
