The Ripon City Council will look to give the OK to staff to administer the first installment of the Poet Laureate grant money to the Ripon Arts League at tonight’s monthly session.

This is in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding, which was approved back in February.

Prior to that, the City of Ripon received a grant - $15,000 of funding over the next three years – from the Library & Literacy Foundation of San Joaquin County.

The philanthropic organization by the San Joaquin Community Foundation will help establish the City’s first-ever Poet Laureate Program.

Ripon is looking to join Manteca, Lodi, Tracy and Stockton in selecting a poet laureate.

The Ripon Arts League has assembled a committee to oversee the process of picking this person to fill those shoes.

The first installment would be the requested $5,000, as funded by the aforementioned Library & Literacy Foundation of SJC.

Elected leaders will convent at 6 o’clock in the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave.
