LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles saved 87 million gallons of water during last month’s storms by turning off the hose.

Officials announced Tuesday that conservation measures helped reduce water use during the wet weather in March. The  water saved could supply 500 families for an entire year.

O’Farrell says the Department of Recreation and Parks had the biggest savings by reconfiguring timers on its irrigation system to avoid watering during the storms.
