n September 13, 2010 in Manteca. She was born on August 13, 1929 in North Dakota.  She was a resident of Manteca for over 55 years. She joins her husband in heaven John H. Powell as well as her children Julie Schmidt and Janice Powell. She is also preceded in by her siblings Raymond Johnson, Joanne Catlett, Donald Johnson, Marilyn McNeely, Marvin Johnson, Walter E. Johnson, Marjean Johnson and David Johnson.

 Mrs. Powell is survived by her children Darrell Powell of Manteca, Gary Powell of Modesto, Wayne Powell of Escalon, and Cheryl Cardoza of Manteca. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren; Darrell Powell of Stockton, Susie Powell of Manteca, Anthony Cardoza of Manteca, Michael Cardoza  of Manteca, Janice Cardoza of Manteca, Travis Powell of Escalon, Dallas Powell of Escalon, Jessica Borrelli of Manteca, John Schmidt of San Diego and Melissa Powell of Oakdale. In addition Edythe was also blessed by 2 great-grandchildren and one surviving sister Kathy Cortez of Modesto.  

 Edythe was a member of the United Lutheran Church on Northgate Drive in Manteca. She loved her horses as she was a member of many different organizations such as Manteca Horsemen’s Associations, California State Horsemen’s  Association , Manteca Color Guard, , and the Sherriff’s Posse.  Her artistic capability never went unnoticed with her gift of sewing. She commonly would fix saddles, sew blankets, and mend clothing as well as upholstery. In memory of Edythe donations can be sent to Hospice of San Joaquin 3888 Pacific Ave. Stockton, California.

 Mrs. Powell’s services are being handled by P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home of Manteca. Her visitation will be held on Monday, September 20, 2010 from 1 to 5 p.m. held at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. Her celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 10 a.m. also located at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery after the service at 1 p.m. An online guest book is available for condolences to the family at www.plfryandson.com
