James Woodward Russell

James Woodrow Russell, 72, entered into rest on March 9, 2009 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was born on February 12, 1937 in Statesville, North Carolina, to Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow and Virginia Russell. He joins his parents in heaven as well as one sister, Shirley Hollbrook-Wetzel.

Mr. Russell is survived by his children Michael Russell of Manteca, Mark Russell of Placerville, Vivian Smith of Oregon, and Larry Russell of Placerville. His siblings are Betty Russell Perez of Manteca and Cecil Russell of Modesto. He was also blessed by 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  

James grew up in Manteca graduating from Manteca High in 1957. While attending Manteca High he played football as a fullback and won the football championships all four years. He was very well known at Manteca High as “Missisip” for his Mississippi southern accent. After graduating James worked at Libby-Owens-Ford “LOF.” He was well known as “Jim” at LOF and retired in 1989. After retirement James moved to Florida for relaxation and peacefulness of the sun and beach. He enjoyed western movies and fast draw cowboy competitions. James will be remembered for his outgoing personality.
