Ripon Christian, Lathrop notch needed wins

Ripon Christian put together another all-around masterpiece Friday, stomping Mariposa 49-0 on the road to take over sole possession of second place in the Southern Athletic League.

The Knights (4-1, 6-2 overall) amassed 481 yards of offense, while the Grizzlies (3-2, 6-2) were shut out for the second time in three weeks.

Grant Sonke set the tone with a 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He finished with 148 yards rushing, 28 receiving. Defensively, he turned in six tackles, two for losses and a forced fumble. Griffin de Abreu added 72 yards receiving, scoring twice on 21-yard caches.

Quarterback Trey Fasani scored on a 17-yard run while completing six passes for 94 yards. He had a third passing touchdown early in the third quarter when he connected with Jace Beidleman for a 13-yard score. Justin Severson contributed a 30-yard rushing touchdown, and Ethan McGovern scored on a run from 12 yards out in the fourth period.

Derek Van Elderen contributed six tackles. Beidleman had an interception, and Severson recovered a fumble.                                                                                                                                

Ripon Christian hosts Gustine (2-2, 4-3) next Friday, Oct. 21.

 

Lathrop 28, Johansen 14

In Modesto, the Spartans (4-1, 5-3 overall) scored the first 28 points of the game and held on for a needed Western Athletic Conference victory. They host first-place Los Banos next week.

Lathrop had four different scorers, as Jeremiah Green, Roman Giordano and Kameron Jones each contributing a rushing touchdown. Quarterback Teagan Shevlin hooked up with A.J. Duenez for a 45-yard touchdown.
