Manteca defeated Sierra 7-2 in Valley Oak League tennis action Tuesday, sweeping the singles action and winning three matches in straight sets at the Manteca Tennis Center.

Manteca’s Jonas Mueller, a foreign exchange student from Germany, won the No. 1 singles match against Brady Alves, 6-0, 6-0.

“For the first match of the season it went pretty well,” Mueller said. “Some things are different between here and Germany, especially the courts. We don’t play on hard courts, we play mainly on clay.

“While many things are the same, that is one thing I had to adjust to.”

The Buffaloes’ Luke Sampson swept the No. 5 singles match against Max Perez, 6-0, 6-0.

“I felt pretty good today,” Samson said. “I thought we were going to win because we have some very good players.

“But there’s always room for improvement.”
