Lathrop’s girls tennis team was dealt its first loss of the Western Athletic Conference season on Tuesday, as Beyer visited Manteca Regional Tennis Center and came away with a 9-0 shutout.

The Spartans are now 2-1.

Madilynn Romero nearly dashed the Patriots’ bid for the shutout. She ultimately came up short in the No. 3 match against Camille Cortez, 3-6, 6-3, 11-13.

Godwina Ogbeide lost to Beyer’s Rayana Arellano 2-6, 2-6 at No. 1 singles. Ruby Chavez was swept by Noelle Martin at No. 2, 3-6, 1-6. Isabel Paniagua (4-6, 0-6), Justice Pacheco Seward (1-6, 0-6) and Suhani Banwait (1-6, 2-6) made up the rest of the Spartans’ singles ladder.

Playing doubles were Janelle Lat/Keziah Boateng (1-6, 0-6), Marintza Mejia/Rachel Boateng (6-7 [10]) and Kiele Matus/Taimane Lowery (3-6, 0-6).

 

Sierra 9, East Union 0

The host Timberwolves (2-1) bounced back from their Valley Oak League loss to Central Catholic.

Caitlin Morrow (6-2, 6-0), Victoria Zellner (6-0, 6-2), Tanya Sharma (6-0, 6-0), Brisa Gonzalez (6-1, 6-0), Sidney Pham (6-1, 6-3) and Maryn Peterson (6-1, 7-5) swept the singles matches.

Doubles winners were Amber Garza/Simran Dosanjh (6-0, 6-1), Grace Langenfeld/Navleen Dosanjh (6-2, 6-0) and Alessia Manetti/Jaden Alton (6-2, 6-3).

 

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Beyer 3, Lathrop 1

The Spartans (2-1, 5-4 overall) suffered their first defeat in WAC play on Monday, 15-25, 25-16, 18-25, 15-25.

Alaba Olaleye led Lathrop with 11 kills and seven digs. LaNicia Ellis contributed five kills and four solo blocks. Sydney Hanks chimed in with two kills, four blocks and three aces. Lylliana Avila tallied 10 digs, while Camila De La Garza accumulated 22 assists, three digs and three aces.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Ripon 155, Linden 193

The Indians improved to 5-0 in the Valley Foothill League North Division.

Medalist Gabby Ilardi finished 3-over-par 34 at Jack Tone Golf Course. Zoe Bremer and Adrianna DiGiulio contributed a 38 and 40, respectively. Vivian Parsons scored a 43. Linden was led by Isabella Vaccarezza’s 40.

 

JV girls volleyball

Lathrop 2, Beyer 0

Elizabeth Andrade registered five kills, one block, three aces and six digs to help Lathrop cruise to a 25-18, 25-8 sweep.

Julia Roaquin dished out 12 assists and served three aces. Celeste Narvarez added six digs and three aces. Liliana Navarro, Za’Ryah Mageo, Janessa Ward and Isabelle Cummings doled out two kills apiece.

 

Frosh girls volleyball

Lathrop 2, Beyer 1

The Spartans clutched up for a 25-15, 19-25, 15-12 win.

Sara Valadez amassed seven aces to go with a kill and a block. Annie Milan (three digs, kill) and Zoe Cejas also did damage from the service line, firing four and three aces, respectively.

Alyssa Roller finished with three assists and two aces. Jada Oliver had two kills and two blocks.
