Ja’Leiyah Ray scored three different ways for Lathrop on Wednesday, and the defense stifled visiting Sierra 24-6 in a non-league flag football game at Bennie Gatto Field.
The ball-hawking defensive back broke up three passes and intercepted two, returning one for a touchdown. She had another big highlight at the start of the second half, rambling 66 yards to the end zone on a run play, as Lathrop (2-1) extended its lead to 18-0.
Ray was also on the receiving end of a touchdown toss from Aviahna Calderon, who finished 9 of 16 for 127 yards and two scores. Calderon also hit Sareah Reed for a 25-yard TD. Ray finished with 99 rushing yards on three carries.
Reed led the defense with nine flag pulls, while corner back Marianna Cook had seven including one for loss.
Sierra quarterback Tessa Zalunardo passed for 128 yards and ran for 34. She hooked up with Kayla Amarante (four receptions, 31 yards) for a touchdown. Elin Villanueva caught nine passes for 82 yards.
Presley Rogerson and Villanueva each pulled four flags. Jayleen Lopez and Stella Vaughan each contributed a sack, and Mia Aguirre had a pick.
The Timberwolves (2-4) host Modesto next Monday, while Lathrop is back home tonight to tangle with East Union.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Lathrop 3, Kimball 0
Siliana Fa’ataualofa came up just short of a triple-double in the 25-15, 25-19, 25-13 sweep in Tracy.
The senior led the Spartans (2-1) with nine kills, eight digs and seven aces. Malia Fa’ataualofa also put away nine kills to go with four aces and four digs. Erin Chunn added six kills and three aces to the attack.
Sophomore middle Breanna Wiseman added three kills, one solo block and two digs. Jadore Dixon racked up 12 digs, while Sariah Hilton collected 26 assists and four digs.
GIRLS TENNIS
Gregori 5, Manteca 4
In Modesto, Buffaloes (1-1) made it tough for the reigning Central California Athletic League champion.
All of their wins came from singles matches: No. 1 Hailie Kim, No. 2 Reina Ngo, No. 5 Paisley Coenenberg and No. 6 Ekam Ghuman.

Kimball held on for the 25-16, 25-21 victory.
Zakia Booker tallied six kills and five digs for the visiting Spartans. Cassidy Fa’ali’i chipped in seven assists, three aces and two digs. Elsa Johnson had two kills.

Lathrop’s Alexia Garcia rushed for 38 yards and passed for 36.

Kyla Swan fired four kills and six aces, while aiding the defense with three digs.
Liona Luaki contributed four kills, Teonna Finney had two kills and two digs, Jaslyn Lugo added three digs and Jessica Reff compiled six aces, eight assists, three digs and one solo block.
