ROUNDUP: Ripon’s Ilardi aces VFL North golf tourney

The Valley Foothill League’s Most Outstanding Player in the North Division two years ago showed the rest of the competition on Monday that the individual crown still goes through her.

Ripon junior Gabbi Ilardi was the only player to finish in the red during the VFL Mid-Year Tournament at Manteca Park Golf Course, registering a 1-under 71. The dominant effort also helped her team widen the gap in the regular-season standings, and the undefeated Indians scored a 390 as a team against runner-up Argonaut’s 405. Escalon (437), Bret Harte (481), Linden (563) and Sonora (587) followed.

Tailing Ilardi on the individual leaderboard were Argonaut’s Ashley Rouen (86), Lucy Allbaugh (87), Argonaut’s Lily Stern (95) and Bret Harte’s Carly Hickman (96).

Ripon’s Katie Martin placed sixth with a 99. Also scoring for the Indians were Vivian Parons (106) and Ana DiGiullio (114). They continue the dual schedule today at Summerville and host Escalon for a big match at Jack Tone Golf Course on Thursday.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Ripon Christian 3, Mariposa 0

Emily Van Groningen flirted with a triple-double in the host Knights’ 25-12, 25-17, 25-10 sweep. The standout middle finished with 10 kills, nine digs and eight aces.

Jordan Vander Veen highlighted Ripon Christian’s efficient showing on the attack, blasting 15 kills on 21 attempts while not committing any unforced errors. The team scored on .522 of its hits with only four errors. Avery McMurray added 10 digs, and Mercy Lara had 30 assists. Taylor Postma and Ava Van Groningen had two blocks apiece.

Ripon Christian improved to 4-0 in the Southern Athletic League and 19-3 overall.

 

Lathrop 3, Johansen 0

Krystle Sakay led Lathrop to the 25-15, 25-18, 25-16 Western Athletic Conference victory with her all-around play, ringing up eight kills and six digs.

Alaba Olaleye chipped in seven kills and two digs, and LaNicia Ellis connected for five kills. Sydney Hanks served six aces, while Camila De La Garza dished out 23 assists.

 

JV volleyball

Ripon Christian 2, Mariposa 0

Sydney Hoffman hammered seven kills to lead the Knights attack. Dayna Koolhaas contributed nine digs and two aces. Amelia Lara and Ally Brown also served two aces each. Megan Weststeyn dished out 21 assists.

 

Lathrop 2, Johansen 0

The Spartans made quick work of visiting Johansen in the 25-3, 25-7 win.

Za’Ryah Mageo anchored the front row with four kills and three solo blocks.
Elizabeth Andrade chimed in with three aces and four digs. Julia Roaquin served three aces to go with seven assists. Celeste Narvarez added four aces and six digs.

 

Frosh volleyball

Lathrop 2, Johansen 0

Annie Millan, Genesis Contreras and Sara Valadez served up four aces apiece as Lathrop earned a hard-earned 25-19, 28-26 sweep.

Faith Moya and Jada Oliver pounded three and two kills, respectively. Alyssa Roller set eight assists and had two aces.
