Sierra girls squeak out win at East Union

It came down to the final race of the Valley Oak League dual meet between the Sierra and East Union girls swim teams Friday.

Meghan Tolman, Emilie Holmes, Karina Berber and Joyceline Carrillo combined for a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, helping visiting Sierra escape with a narrow 87-82 victory. The Timberwolves boys team also won, 115-57.

Sierra’s girls were able to pull out the win despite getting first-place points in just four of the 11 events. Tolman claimed the 50 free and 200 free. Ezra Moral later won the 100 backstroke for a 70-69 Timberwolves lead.

East Union jumped ahead on the penultimate event, the 100 breaststroke won by Savannah Hudson. She also won the 100 butterfly and was part of the first-place 200 medley and 200 free relays. 

Kelly Ball joined her for the relays and tallied wins in the 200 individual medley and 100 free. Autumn Fox won the 500 free.

Sierra’s boys team was anchored by Nik Brink (200 free, 100 free) and David Tolman (50 free, 100 breast), who each won two individual events and were on the winning 200 free and 400 free relays.

Connor McClure (200 IM), Zach Van Zwalenberg (500 free) and Charles Randolph (100 back) also pitched in first-place points. Michael Garcia won the 100 fly for East Union and helped the 200 medley relay take first.

 

Kimball-Manteca-Ripon

RIPON — VOL champion Ripon honored its five seniors at Ervin Zador Aquatic Center on Thursday. The girls team defeated Kimball 103-68 and Manteca, 122-46.

Cal Baptist-bound Mallory Brubaker won the 200 free, was the 100 fly runner-up to teammate Chloe Winter. Ashtyne Topie (50 free) and Amy Bacay (100 back) were other overall first-place finishers for the Indians. Alyssa Trejo of Manteca won the 500 free.

Matt Trejo paced Manteca’s boys team with victories in the 200 free and 100 fly. Arizona signee Ty Wells (100 free, 100 breast) and Kai West (200 IM, 500 free) each won two individual events, while Connor Self chipped in a win in the 100 back.

Final team results for the boys were not available as of press time.

 

Junior varsity girls

Sierra 64, East Union 55

Nathalia Rondon (50 free), Emilee Berg (100 free), Nathalia Rondon (50 back) and Vanessa Castro (50 breast) were individual winners for Sierra.

East Union was led by Adelle Dorrett (100 IM) and Dianna Parra (50 fly).
