East Union has gotten off to a quick start on the season and no Lancers is doing more to help the club than senior Kelsey Emerson. Emerson did it all Tuesday in a 15-4 blowout of Escalon, handling the majority of the pitching duties and going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Emerson got things going in a hurry, driving a pitch off the top of the fence for a bases loaded double and three RBI. The bases-clearing-double was all the support Emerson would need, holding Escalon scoreless over four innings and not surrendering an earned run in the win.
“We were just joking around calling it the Kelsey Emerson show right now,” East Union head coach Brian Goulart said. “The only out she has made it two games is a line drive that was caught in self-defense by the pitcher.
“She’s 7-for-8 with three doubles and a [grand slam].”
Emerson led the Lancers with a pair of doubles and four RBI, while teammate Jillian Costa banged out three hits in the win. Costa has also been anchoring the Lancer infield from her second base position, surprisingly stepping in as top defender.
The Lancers will try and keep things going in the right direction Thursday, hosting the Liberty Ranch Hawks at 4 p.m., weather permitting.
