In a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Mountain House in semifinal action of the District 67 9-10 All Star Tournament on Saturday, Northgate’s pitching allowed just three hits, but two went for home runs and accounted for three of the four Mountain House runs. The other run scored on an error.
Northgate took a 2-0 first-inning lead. John Perazzo reached on an error to start the inning and went to second on Jack Cunial’s single. Both advanced on stolen bases and came in on Ivan Vieira’s single. Mountain House bounced back to score three runs in the third – all unearned – with two coming on a home run.
Cunial (3 for 3, double, RBI) tied the game in the fifth with an RBI double that plated J.P. Campos, but Mountain House answered in the sixth inning with a solo home run that proved to be the difference.
Tyler Toste went five innings on the hill for Northgate and was tagged for three runs – all unearned – while giving up two hits and striking out seven.
Manteca and Tracy National play tonight and the winner of that game will play Northgate on Tuesday for an opportunity to square up with Mountain House B in the championship round Wednesday night.
