STOCKTON (AP) —Logan Taylor homered and had two hits, and Nick Neidert allowed just one hit over six innings as the Modesto Nuts beat the Stockton Ports 6-0 on Tuesday.
Neidert (1-0) struck out eight to pick up the win.
Modesto scored five runs in the first, including a single by Braden Bishop that scored Eric Filia. The Nuts scored again in the seventh inning, when Taylor hit a solo home run.
Casey Meisner (0-2) went two innings, allowing five runs and nine hits in the California League game. He also struck out two and walked one.
The Ports were held scoreless for the second time this season, while the Nuts’ staff recorded their first shutout of the year.
