STOCKTON — With Levi Morris keeping Spreckels Park off balance into the sixth inning, Northgate exploded for 11 runs in the top of the sixth and withstood a mini Spreckels Park rally after Morris left the game due to pitch count and came out of the consolation bracket to down Spreckels Park 18-4 via the mercy rule in six innings at Paul Weston Park. This sets up a tilt between the two teams this afternoon at 5:30 for the District 67 Juniors All-Star championship.
Morris blanked Spreckels Park into the fifth inning, striking out five with five hits and two runs.
Northgate entered the sixth leading 7-1 when it racked up 11 runs. Morris knocked in two runs in the frame with two hits and finished 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs. Rider Hinman- Shockey also knocked in two runs in the inning on a single and groundout, going 2 for 3 with two RBI and four runs. Manoah Ellis tallied a pair of RBI singles and finished with a double, going 3 for 4 with two RBI. Francisco Diaz (two RBI), Robert Sharpnack (two RBI) and Mack Kohler each added an RBI.
Northgate took advantage of four walks to score five third-inning runs with Sharpnack blasting a sacrifice fly and Bryce Flores (2 for 4, two RBI, three runs) looping an RBI bloop single. Abraham Toscano, Morris, John Ellis, Bryce Flores (2 for 4, two RBI, three runs), Hinman-Shockey and Manoah Ellis all scored in the frame.
Once Morris left the game in the sixth Spreckels Park was able to put up three runs. Benny O’Neill drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Keoni Teller followed by Bradyn Morales’ two-RBI triple, scoring Derrick Riley and Ruben Cedano (2 for 3, run). Following the Morales triple Aaron Aguilar and Chris Mareck were each hit by a pitch, loading the bases with two outs and bringing in John Ellis to pitch. Ellis proceeded to end the game with a strikeout.
