The Giants put up nine runs in the first inning Wednesday and were able to withstand a six-run inning by the Braves on the way to a 12-9 win and the Spreckels Park Little League junior-division championship.

The win also gives the Giants a berth to the District 67 Tournament of Champions, where they will play tournament host Weston Ranch Saturday, June 18, at Paul Weston Park at 7 p.m.

The Giants sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning. Jason Arnoldus (3 for 4, three RBI, double, two runs) had two hits in the inning including a two-RBI double and he scored a run. Noah Valdivia (3 for 4, two RBI, two triples, double) had the big hit of the inning with an RBI triple and Richie Cervantez (2 for 4, three runs) scored two runs in the frame behind a single and a walk.

The Giants carried an 11-2 lead into the fourth inning when the Braves narrowed the gap to 11-8 with six runs. The Giants had some pitching issues in the frame and gave up four walks and hit a batter. Angelo Aguilar (2 for 4, triple, three RBI) belted a three-RBI triple and Max Guaracio (2 for 4) looped a single.

Valdivia doubled in Arnoldus in the fifth inning to put the Giants up 12-8 and in the sixth Lorenzo Jones (four runs) scored on an Erick Cortez double for the Braves to come within 12-9. The Braves would only have one more base runner when Guaracio singled to lead off the seventh inning.
