SACRAMENTO — After a season that put the Manteca Futbol Club’s girls under-11 Red Devils team against some of the best teams from all over Northern California, the Red Devils closed out the Norcal State Cup Championship games with a 4-3 victory over the Sacramento United for the championship cup.

The Red Devils cruised to the championship match after grueling path that began weeks ago when the team opened the first round of tournament play. Manteca notched victories over Bay Oaks (Oakland) and the Newark Earthquakes before meeting up with the United.
The championship game proved to be the Red Devils most complete match, jumping to an early 1-0 lead behind Rosalia Ravelo’s first-half goal. The United responded with an early second-half goal, giving the championship match all the entertainment needed.

The Red Devils got back on top when Chloe Benham made good on the squad’s second goal, only to have Sacramento tie things up by netting its second score. Ariana Cardenas broke the 2-2 tie, when she scored moments before the United found the back of the net for the third time.

With the game in the balance, the Red Devils responded, getting their fourth goal from Jordyn Costa to seal the deal. Manteca got standout defensive play from Melissa Suarez and Alyssa Taboa, while Marcella Salyer was the difference in the net.

Manteca also got solid play from midfielders, Alaina Haena, Jasenya Barajas, Daisy Talavera and Amanda Armstrong.
