These are busy days at the Manteca Adult School located at the Manteca Unified School District compound on West Louise Avenue, corner of Airport Way. The long line of people seen Friday afternoon in front of the district building complex was just one demonstration of that.

The people waiting patiently in the chilly outdoors were there to secure a seat in the Adult Classes that will be starting in spring. Registration for the spring term, which started on Jan. 6, will continue through Friday, Jan. 16. Registration hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and in the evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Spring classes will run from Jan. 20 to May 15, with the spring break to occur March 9 to 13.

Regular office hours at the Adult School are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

Students must be at least 18 years of age to register for classes, or have to be emancipated minors.

Manteca Adult School offers diploma classes as well as classes for General Equivalency Diploma (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL), and Career Technical Education (CTE). Classes are held at the district office complex, Lathrop Adult Center (next to Lathrop Elementary School on Fifth Street), Lathrop High School at Spartan Way west of Interstate 5, and Weston Ranch High School in French Camp.

An initial enrollment fee of $30 is charged for the high school diploma classes. Some classes require fees for classroom materials. Fee waiver scholarships are available for those who qualify.

Manteca Adult School offices are located in the portable buildings on the west side of the entrance to the school district compound on Louise Avenue. The buildings were formerly occupied by the Health Services Department which has since moved to the Lindbergh School on East North Street in Manteca where the Adult School was formerly located.

Class sizes are limited; at the same time, some classes may be cancelled if not enough students are enrolled.
