The man that police believe was behind a shooting in Lathrop in early July was taken into custody last week.

And it didn’t necessarily go smoothly for him when he landed on his face after jumping out of a second story window.

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, Amritpal Singh, 22, was discovered to be living at a house in Fairfield. He attempted to flee through an upstairs window when the Fairfield Police Department SWAT team tried to gain access into the house – wearing nothing but his boxer shorts and holding a pistol.

Singh reportedly landed face first on a ground-level air conditioning unit and was taken into custody without further incident. In addition to the firearm that he dropped during his attempted escape, officers found another firearm inside of the residence.

The air conditioning unit, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, sustained only mild damage.

Singh, who police say was the shooter in the incident that occurred on July 5, is currently prohibited from owning firearms due to a served criminal protective order. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office believe that while somebody else was driving, Singh fired into an occupied vehicle at the intersection of Garden Farms Avenue and Somerston Parkway.

Both victims were uninjured in the incident, but officers had very little information to go off of at the time that the incident occurred, but Lathrop Police investigators were able to determine the identities of those that were responsible for the incident and tracked both men down.

The driver, identified by the police as 19-year-old Vaneet Arora, was living in American Canyon but has since moved out of California. An active arrest warrant is currently outstanding for Arora.

Singh is currently in custody at the San Joaquin County Jail where he is being held on $1.325 million bail on charges of shooting at an inhabited vehicle and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in Department 1 of the Manteca branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court on Sept. 14 at 8:30.
