MUSD 8h graders head to high school

A group of top achievers show off their gold academic honors just before joining the procession of their peers to enter the Sierra High School gym Wednesday night for their Promotion Ceremony. Brock Elliott Elementary — a California Distinguished School — presented some 100 eighth grade students in their 2018 promotion Exercise Wednesday night at the packed Sierra High School gym.
The Brock Elliott sixth and seventh grade band directed by Rick Hammerstrom played “Pomp and Circumstance” for the entrance processional followed by the presentation of the Colors by the Sierra High School Honor Guard – former Brock Elliott students.
Student Council President Jacob Beasley offered his remarks to the gathering of students, parents and friends in the gym followed by a welcome and introductions of special guests by PrincipalDebbie Ruger.
Student speakers for the commencement were Jennifer Chang and Angelina Le followed by a slide show of the students presented by eighth grade teacher Lindsey Thissen.
A musical presentation of “Atlantis” by Anne McGinty was presented by the Brock Elliott sixth to eighth grade band under the direction of Rick Hammerstrom.
A student vocal performance “Count on Me” was presented by Jane Lomboy accompanied by Jennifer Chang on the violin under the direction of their advisor Donna Goulart.
School District Trustee Bob Wallace certified the students as having completed their course of study.
The diplomas were presented by Debbie Ruger and Heather Thomson along with Bob Wallace, Aaron Bowers and Steve Clark.
