Perry’s Market along the Highway 99 Frontage Road in Manteca offers locally grown produce, baked goods, gift items, and other prepared foods.

Perry’s Market continues to grow.

The country store of George Perry & Sons, Inc. is open from May through December (Dec. 23), offering locally grown produce, baked goods, gift items, coffee, nuts, jams, dried fruits, and popcorn, to name a few.

“This was a small fruit stand off the old highway,” said Joe Widmer of the family owned and operated business that took root in 1925.

The proof of that is an old photo (circa 1940) on display at Perry’s Market of the founder Delphino Perry holding his young son, George Sr., alongside a fruit stand.

That’s the same George who expanded the family business by buying and selling watermelons and pumpkins to local growers to supplement his farm in order to fulfill the increasing demand from customers – this partnership began in 1965 and later incorporated in 1974.

Widmer is part of the Perry family that’s grown over the years and now includes a fourth generation of working together.

Located at 13881 S. Highway 99, Perry’s Market is accessible via the Frontage Road between French Camp and Lathrop roads. Travelers along southbound 99 often take notice and, for those who stop, are surprised of what’s inside of this Manteca country store, according to Widmer.

Perry’s Market offers in-house baked pies and other goodies – “Grandma Vi’s” pies are made from Violet Perry’s family recipes.

The Portuguese bread is baked fresh daily from Escalon.

There’s a large variety of watermelon and pumpkins.

Pumpkin Patch at Perry’s Market recently opened, offering plenty of free fun for families and their children.

The Pumkin Patch, which was added to business about four years ago, has expanded to make for more room, more pumpkins, and plenty of places for photo opportunities.

The latest incarnation of the Perry’s fruit stand was started in 2015.

“The next generation of Perrys revived the fruit stand idea with an ‘on your honor’ stand that quickly evolved into the fun little market we have now,” said the official website, www.perrysmarket.com.

Part of that recent expansion included converting the old shop building into the 2,400-square-foot country store.

Perry’s Market, in addition, offers seasonal gift items.
